HUTCH can be found at 23740 Fern Crescent, on the Allouette River

You may have seen Little Free Libraries popping up in your neighbourhood. The “take a book, leave a book” exchange libraries have inspired a new version: tiny galleries.

Some tiny galleries show collections of artists’ work. Others operate as, a “take an artwork, leave an artwork” concept. HUTCH has spaces for both. There is a tiny show up-top and some art supplies down below. Occasionally the upper cabinet will be a special show of one artist’s work but most of the time it will be an exchange. You can add your work to the show if you like.

October is Land Month at Hutch

We are starting Land Month with Poems for Stones.
Please add a few words for a stone at HUTCH.
Don't live nearby? Send me a poem, and I will search for the perfect stone to match your poem.

Sedimentary
Your story happened while you were sedentary.

We will also be doing some print making using plants in October. If you would like to make prints with the plants in your own backyard you can try these eco-prints.

September is River Month at HUTCH

There are little boats you can float down the river and materials at HUTCH for you to make your own boat. Come to Albion on Tuesdays for arts and crafts night to get inspired by your neighbours.

Inaugural Exhibition - mid-July to mid-August, 2024
Zed Payne

Zed (he/she/they) is a multidisciplenary artist with over 40 years of experience. Painting, woodworking, stained glass, felting, ceramics, story telling and quilting have been their focuses, so far.

They draw their inspiration from the natural world, but lean towards amped up colours and abstract forms.

“Art in its many forms is a crucial part of any community and has the ability to bring people together in a world that could certainly use more unity and joy. I hope this tiny exhibition brings a smile to you and provides an imaginative springboard for all the exhibitions in this space to come.”

Tiny Alternative Art Spaces

Tiny galleries are pretty new, but artists have been showing work in unusually small spaces for a long time. Some of my favourites are Shelfed, a single shelf in Jamie Hilder’s home, Boot, work displayed in the trunk of Lee Plested’s car and that wonderful man who showed work in the small patch of space that didn’t grow hair in his beard. If anyone knows this person’s name, please let me know. The works he showed in his beard included a tiny painting, a pat of butter, and a long shock of grey hair with Sontag somewhere in the title.
