Imagine an awesome town, unconstrained by geography or even physics. Drawn from whole cloth, improvisers will come together to create a city, invented on the spot from audience suggestions. Towny is a collage of long and short-form improvisation with lots of opportunities for audience members to contribute to the show.
The troupe includes: Colleen Brown, Kianna Jasmer, Evy Klassan, Lorene Stuart, Robert Walker, Sherrie Yee, Holly Zonneveld, Mark Zukowoski, with special guest, Deb Sears. Our coach is the fabulous Joshua Wilson, and Peter Tam will be keeping the beat for us.
Towny is supported by the Maple Ridge Artist-in-Residence program.
JOSH WILSON is a performer, instructor, and facilitator with over 15 years of experience teaching theatre and improv. He has performed across Europe with groups such as Moscow Improv Club, Yowza, Troika, Alan, and TeddyBeards, as well as in his own solo show Masks. He currently performs with Chilliwack Improv and Very Very Improv, where he also serves as Academy Coordinator. In his spare time, Josh works as a professional D&D Dungeon Master and voice-over actor.
PETER TAM is a singer-songwriter, composer, and pianist. Peter has released multiple singles and an album, A Walk in the Wood. From 2022 onwards, Peter has been touring and playing over 220 shows annually. In addition to his live performances, Peter composed a hybrid Chinese opera that was performed at Vancouver’s Orpheum Annex and QE Playhouse theatres. He also produced successful theater productions, including Billy Joel Elton John Songbook – Pianomen and a Christmas opera.
Outfits
After the show, I’ll be making costumes inspired by the characters we've invented. If you would like to create your own characters and maybe even create some outfits for them, workshops are coming up in the Spring.

Anatomy of an Offer: A very short film
I’m also making a very short, non-narrative film. We shot on November 29 with the help of Zoe Kirk-Gushowaty and Zebnem Ozpeta. Thank you to everyone who donated their time and jumped in to help. In the editing, I will be looking for a close view of all of the crazy amounts of thinking and feeling that is going on in the tiny moments before an improviser jumps in.
